Plickers

Now I would like to talk about Plickers . It is a tech resource to check the understanding and assess the kids while they are playing! I discover this method in my internship, and it is perfect to assess the students with a game instead of an exam. You guarantee that the students are participating by using the plickers cards and you can see which students need more practice or help.  But, how they play? The students will work as a whole group, and they have to answer a quiz by using the cards. When they know the answer (A,B,C,D) they raise up their hand with the card in the correct position in which is the letter. Meanwhile, the teacher with the tablet can see the pupils who got it right and the pupils who got it wrong. https://get.plickers.com/.

Groups of experts.

Students are going to work in teams, and decide the expert of a topic: for example, each group will investigate about a country. Each student have to gather information about: country/region (demography, geography) festivity typical food music and typical clothes monuments They will have 25 minutes to do the research, Each expert of the group meets with the other experts of the other groups to collect information with the ICT resources available. In order to prevent students from accessing to insecure websites, they will make us of the secure browser ‘Kiddle’ to look for the information.  https://www.kiddle.co/.   Each member comes back to their group and transcribes the information in a padlet, in which they post their different ideas. This is an example: https://padlet.com/mort446f/our-padlet-about-britain-the-united-kingdom-32vn44c4atqf

An interactive running dictation

One of the most important aspects of listening is the comprehension. Students are going to listen to the audio with different purposes: they can listen for the gist, for specific information or find the speaker's attitude or opinion about a topic.  I am going to explain an activity called 'Running dictation'. It is an activity in which students work in groups of 3 or in pairs. In this activity they work not only in the listening skill, but also the speaking, reading and writing are integrated. It is a game in which students stand up and move around the class. They have to find the text and walk back to the group and dictate what they remembered. The other student is going to write down what they hear and when the teacher says CHANGE the students swap the roles. Finally, they will write the whole text and read it together to see what they have written.  This activity can be done using QR codes which are sticked in the corners of the classroom. The main aim is that t...

Let me introduce myself

Hello stranger! Welcome to my blog in which we are going to talk about different ideas related to the interesting world of education... My name is Irene Padilla and I would like to propose different activities that have a communicative approach in which the four skills are worked on. I would like to highlight the importance of working the oral skills (listening and speaking), which precede the written skills (reading and writing). As Jon Byrne stated, the learner's ability to understand needs to be more extensive than the ability to speak.Consequently, they have to listen to the language and by encouraging them to listen we will help them to learn to read and write later on. Therefore, I will explain different motivating and communicative activities which are familiar to children and varied, so that the students work on the main goal of our subject, which is improve the learners competence in linguistic communication.  These activities have two main objectives:  The learn...
