Tongue twisters speaking and writing game

This activity is focus on oral skills. Students will work in teams and practice with tongue twisters.

Each group, will have a list of tongue twisters to practice:

  • Tongue Twister: On a lazy laser raiser lies a laser ray eraser.
  • Tongue Twister: ‘A happy hippo hopped and hiccupped’. (A happy hippo jumped and sobbed).
  • Tongue Twister: ‘Nine nice night nurses nursing nicely’.
  • Tongue Twister: the witch chops chicken in the kitchen.
  • Tongue Twister: How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if woodchuck could chuck wood
  • Tongue Twister: Whether the weather be fine or whether the weather be not.
  • Whether the weather be cold or whether the weather be hot.
  • We’ll weather the weather whether we like it or not.
  • Tongue Twister: Wunwun was a race horse, Tutu was one too, Wunwun won one race. Tutu won one too
  • Tongue Twister: Nine nice night nurses nursing nicely.
  • Tongue Twister: A good cook could cook cookies as much as a good cook knows how to cook cookies.
  • Tongue Twister: Two tiny timid toads trying to trot to Tarrytown.

The main aim of the activity is that each group practice different sounds and using an app called Audacity, they can record their voices and listen to them. Furthermore, it is a funny activity because students like to listen to each other and repeating the different tongue twisters.

Afterwards, when all the groups have practice them orally, in groups they can make a Canva writing them down.

Plickers

Now I would like to talk about Plickers . It is a tech resource to check the understanding and assess the kids while they are playing! I discover this method in my internship, and it is perfect to assess the students with a game instead of an exam. You guarantee that the students are participating by using the plickers cards and you can see which students need more practice or help.  But, how they play? The students will work as a whole group, and they have to answer a quiz by using the cards. When they know the answer (A,B,C,D) they raise up their hand with the card in the correct position in which is the letter. Meanwhile, the teacher with the tablet can see the pupils who got it right and the pupils who got it wrong. https://get.plickers.com/.
